PB's 52nd Voyage for Peace, departing December 26, 2005, will travel to the southern hemisphere, rounding both South Africa and South America and passing through the South Pacific island nations before returning to Japan on March 30, 2006.
PB's southern hemisphere voyages focus on the environment, human rights, indigenous people’s struggle for human rights and identity and other issues faced by the ‘Global South’.

Welcoming the new year, over 900 participants and staff will be investigating the reality of poverty, HIV and vibrant culture in South African townships and the marginal communities, or Favelas, of Rio de Janiero, environmental protection in Africa and South America, and the history and future of life for indigenous people from Rapa Nui to Rabaul in the South Pacific. Our goal is to build links, support and learn from each other how another, better world is being created from the ground up, supporting the rise of a new super-power: global civil society.
