(transcribed from my diary)
Holy cow we just saw a small set of eruptions from the volcano!! Last night it had been too cloudy, though we were impressed to see a reddish glow tinting the clouds that shrouded the summit. But tonight it was clear! I walked to the balcony just to see if we could see, and bing there was a bright red spot and trail looking thing!
"Kathryn!"
And she came to the balcony with her binoculars and we were able to clearly see that large huge glowing boulders were bulging out then tumbling down the mountain for a bit then exploding into glowing red shrapnel that quickly vanished as it cooled.
Amazing! We even got to see it spew a bit.
All of this was *not* at the summit, but in an apparent fissure on the side of the mountain somewhere. There were actually about four points in relatively close proximity that put on the display for us this night.
After about 20 minutes, all was black again, and we didn't get to see any more.
WOW!!! Now I really want to climb that volcano! I'll have to go to Hawaii where I believe we can walk right up to some active craters.
Tomorrow horseback to Monteverde!!!
