mmm I see my post doesn't clearly state the problem. I am creating an app with which I wish to allow people to download our proprietary videos from our server. The vids are too big to bundle with the app, so I need to download them after the app is purchased.

i'm not quite sure what you want, as iphone doesn't really allow downloading/storing/viewing of files as files. (eg: there is no svn client for iphone.)

but consider this (see below). maybe it can be hacked to do what you want.

http://www.jwz.org/hacks/youtubedown

"Given a YouTube or Vimeo URL, downloads the underlying video file, with a sensible file name. It downloads the highest resolution version of the video available: first it tries HD MP4, then regular MP4, then WebM, and finally FLV. It also works on playlists, and works as a bookmarklet to download the video you're watching"

# You can also use this as a bookmarklet: put it somewhere on your web server
# as a .cgi, then bookmark this URL:
#
# javascript:location='http://YOUR_SITE/youtubedown.cgi?url='+location
#
# or better,
#
# javascript:window.open('http://YOUR_SITE/youtubedown.cgi?url='+location.toString().replace(/%26/g,'%2526').replace(/%23/g,'%2523'),'youtubedown','width=400,height=50')
#
# When you click on that bookmarklet in your toolbar, it will give you
# a link on which you can do "Save Link As..." and be offered a sensible
# file name by default.

Before you get too excited/dismissive, it might be worth your reading THIS report:

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/challenges.php?id=1386949

If the press only report on the fraction of this report that has actually been read and translated, and even then choose to ignore the named links, what can we be expected to believe?

After all, unlike politicians, the press are beyond reproach.

Are they not?

If you want to speak of dialog, you <b><i>must</i></b> visit "Between Shilo & Turmos Ayya. A local Palestinian Arab and I started publishing our months old dialog in which we explore each other's perceptions of the other's society and our common experiences. We look forward to your comments and questions!

Dammit; I meant to mention that in my original post. Basically within the title: "another thing for the animal rights people to be upset about," but changed it to flying noses cause it's a funny visual, and then forgot what I was thinking of, ironically, and wrote something moronic.

Oh well...

Those are probably what I would have come up with, except for the third one... I keep thinking Google is done growing in various orthogonal dimensions.

silly me.

I wonder if anyone will get upset with the way that the product assumes that there is no value to a wasp life. I don't know of any other product where you're expected to throw away the container and just let the things starve. (Mouse/rat traps don't count; the vermin in question has, by the definition of the person placing the trap, relenquished its right to live. Also, those fruit flies you can buy for breeding in your biology class are educational in nature.)

I heard of a prof at Berkeley who put electrodes in roach brains to find out how they worked. When asked by a friend why he worked with roaches, he said, because no one cares what you do with roaches.
